One of the biggest modifiable risk factors for cancer development and cancer recurrence revolves around diet, and unfortunately there is a lot of mis-information based on anecdotal evidence or fad diets. When patients are serious about wanting to do what they can, not only to promote their overall health, but to reduce their risk of cancer or cancer recurrence I point them to Dr. Michael Greger’s book, How Not to Die. His book is a comprehensive, evidence-based guide on nutrition, and how we can use food to prevent heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. His writing is scientific, yet he manages to stay both engaging and easy to understand. Dr. Greger’s common-sense guidance for focusing on a plant-based diet is a must read for those motivated to learn about the benefits of a plant-based, whole grain diet.
